Minor Car Body Repairs & Paintwork

What Do We Do?

We can carry out repairs to minor paintwork & bodywork damage that does not usually need the affected panel or panels to be replaced or re-aligned, or where there is no (or little) structural damage.

IMG_8813

The most common types of repairs we carry out are bumper scuffs, bumper splits, panel scratches over several panels (usually excluding bonnets, roofs & the top of a boot), minor accidental damage like wheel arch dents, small door dents, stone chips repairs, surface scratches, dulled paintwork, some lacquer peeling, mirror scuffs, exterior door trim.

IMG_8807

A lot of our repairs are SMART (small area repair technique) repairs, which means the whole panel is not painted, only the damaged area which is then blended into the rest of the panel.

032 (2)

We use body-shop materials which include waterbased paints and 2 pack/2 part lacquers (which are sprayed in our SMART booth) for high quality, long lasting and durable results, and are guaranteed for 2 years (except rust).

How Long Does It Take?

We can do most single repairs in a day, where the customer drops off the vehicle at 8:30am and it’s ready to collect by 5:30pm.

Some more extensive repairs may take 2 or up to 3 days, but our repair times are virtually always considerably quicker than a ‘traditional’ body-shop repair time.

How Much Does It Cost?

Because the amount of time to repair the damage before it is ready to paint can be different from vehicle to the next, there is not a fixed price for a repair. We have a pricing guide which is kept with our paintwork quote pad to assist with pricing when inspecting the damage on a vehicle.

It is always better to ask the customer to bring the vehicle in for an estimate, but ‘guide prices’ can be given from either a photo sent in or a description in writing from text/email/phone call, but these would be subject to change on arrival.

What Don’t We Do?

We are not a fully equipped body-shop, so we do not repair structural damage, or usually replace panels.

We do not carry out full resprays, or usually repair/repaint bonnets, roofs or boot lids.

We don’t work on rust because we cannot guarantee that it will not return quickly.

Engine ECU Remapping

What Is It?

As most vehicles from 1999 onwards are controlled by an engine management system or ECU (Electronic Control Unit), the data held in the ECU has been designed by the manufacturers to enable the engine to operate under all sorts of extreme conditions (temperature, humidity, altitude, fuel quality, servicing standards, etc) and cope with the worst of these conditions ie it is down-tuned for ‘worst case scenario’.

DSC02850

We can access and optimise the data held in the ECU to improve the efficiency of the engine based on tried and tested settings (usually measured on a rolling road). It can be carried out on cars, vans, 4x4, motorhomes and campers.

IMG_3325

The best results are had from turbo charged engines, but normally aspirated cars (ie petrol injection with no turbo or supercharger) also gain the best increase in bhp per £ spent from a remap.

What Does It Do?

The optimised settings enable the engine to produce more power (bhp) and torque (Nm) up to 35% in some cases, as well as improved throttle response and less turbo lag.

This will result in the car accelerating faster (particularly in higher gears) for safer overtaking, it will have more torque to tow or carry heavy weight more easily, and if the extra power/torque is used correctly can improve mpg.

How Long Does It Take?

It depends on the method of remapping which is specific to the vehicle make/model/engine and the ECU fitted.

Some ECUs can be accessed/connected to quickly and easily via the service connection port or OBD (On Board Diagnostics) port. Others we have to make a connection directly to the ECU which required more time & work.

DSC02992

A straight forward OBD connection remap can usually be turned around in around 2 hours, whereas some more complex remaps may need a full day.

Speak to our remapping experts for further advice on timescales.

How Much Does It Cost?

This depends on the type of engine and the method of remapping the ECU.

There is a price list in our master pricing folder in reception, most vehicles are £390 inc VAT, but prices start from £330 inc VAT and go up to £474 inc VAT.

FAQ’s

Are there any guarantees?

Yes, the customer has a 30 day no quibble money back guarantee which means that if they are not completely happy we will return the vehicle back to how it was & refund them, no terms & conditions.

Are there any warranties?

Yes, there is a lifetime software warranty which means that if the dealer overwrites the remap software with a ‘’dealer update’ we will remap it again FOC while the original purchaser still owns the vehicle. There is also a 12 month limited mechanical & electrical warranty for vehicles under 80,000 miles which covers anything directly as a result of the remap (terms & conditions apply).

Window Tinting

What Is It?

It is a specially designed adhesive film that is cut & shrunk to shape on the outside and fitted using a water based slip solution to the inside of the vehicles glass.

Audi A5 Before After 1

It comes in a range of shades which reduces the amount of light that is transmitted through or the VLT (Visual Light Transmitance) value. The darker the shade, the less light it allows through.

The shades we stock are Limo black (5%), Dark Smoke (20%) which is our most popular & the closest to the majority of factory tints, Medium Smoke (35%) and Light Smoke (50%).

Window Tint Film Shades

Each window is individually tinted and so a range of shades could be selected if the customer required.

What Does It Do?

Adding a window tint totally transforms the look of the vehicle giving it a ‘top of the range’ appearance, but there are also other benefits to window tinting.

It reduces the visibility into the vehicle giving more privacy & security, which many motorhome/camper owners appreciate, or trades people who carry valuable tools & equipment in their vehicles & don’t want casual passers-by to see.

All tints reduce UV rays by close to 99% which is good if you have young children, animals or passengers with sensitive skin in the vehicle. Glare & heat are also massively reduced depenting on the shade) to make it more comfortable for passengers.

How Long Does It Take?

This will vary from vehicle to vehicle as it depends on how many panes of glass there are, the size and accessibility of the glass.

Most small 3 door cars can be completed in ½ day, but larger vehicles & 4x4s may need a full day. This includes time to dry as much moisture out from behind the tint as possible.

How Much Does It Cost?

Depending on the number of panes of glass and the size of the vehicle will determine the price. As each pane is individually cut, shrunk & fitted, this affects the price.

There is a price list in our master pricing folder in reception, but most vehicles are around £180 (£150+VAT).

FAQ’s

Can l tint the front side windows?

The law says that you must allow 70% light to be transmitted through the glass to be compliant with the construction & use regulations. Most manufacturers who put the slightest tint in the glass will be at that level already. Any of the films we stock would take it over the limit and would make the vehicle un-roadworthy & could invalidate the owner’s insurance.

TerraClean

What Is It?

It is a service which removes the carbon deposits which have built up inside the engine of petrol & diesel vehicles over time, due to the inefficient combustion of the fuel.

The terraclean equipment is connected to the fuel lines of the vehicle, and the engine runs on the terraclean fluid, helping to remove the carbon everywhere where the fuel & exhaust gasses go, which includes the fuel ail, fuel injectors & tips, bottom of the cylinder head & valves, the piston tops, exhaust outlet & system, sensors in the exhaust, cat and dpf (although not a ‘deep’ clean) where applicable.

All this is achieved without removing any engine components.

It is tried & tested with over 3000 terraclean operators worldwide.

What Does It Do?

The build up of carbon reduces the efficiency of the engine/sensors/injectors, which results in a loss of power, more fuel is used, and emissions increase.

By removing/reducing the carbon, power is restored back, fuel economy improves and emissions reduce (unless there are other underlying problems).

How Long Does It Take?

The larger the engine, and more complex the fuel system, the longer it takes, but most services can be carried out in around 2 hours.

How Much Does It Cost?

Petrol & Diesel engines are the same price, and there are pricing bands depending on the size of engine.

There is a price list in our master pricing folder in reception, but most vehicles are up to 2.0 litre engine capacity which is £108 (£90+VAT).

Alloy Wheel Repairs/Refurbs

What Do We Do & How Long Does It Take?

We offer 3 main services for alloy wheels, which are minor repairs, full refurbishment and colour changes. The service offered to the customer depends on the damage to the wheel, the customers requirements and the budget they have available.

For minor damage such as kerbing marks (the most common repair) we can carry out these types of repair ‘In House’. The damage area is dressed, filled (if necessary), primed, painted, blended and the front face is re-lacquered. Most repairs of this type can be carried out in just 1 day

For colour changes, we can often carry this out ‘In House’ if just the front face is required to be re-coloured. If the inside of the barrel also needs painting it may be necessary to have a full refurbishment (see below) for the best possible finish. The wheel is keyed, painted & lacquered & can usually be completed in 1 or maximum 2 days.

Some wheels require a full refurbishment. These are usually wheels with corrosion in them, or with a specialist diamond turned finish (looks like a cd face with lines in them when inspected closely). This is not carried out ’In House’ due to the process involved, but are sub-contracted to a specialist. The process they follow is to remove the tyre & valve, chemically strip the wheel to the bare metal, lightly blast to key & remove chemical, powder coat a primer, paint the colour, diamond turn on a lathe if appropriate, powder coat with lacquer, and re-fit the tyre & valve. Some customers may also choose this option if they wish to change the colour of the whole wheel. The entire process with transport takes around 5 working days, but we do have storage facilities here at the Car Care Centre for the vehicle, so it is a drive-in/drive-out service.

How Much Does It Cost?

There is a price list in our master pricing folder in reception which you must refer to due to the range of options, but minor repairs start from £55+VAT and full refurbs are usually around £400 inc VAT.

AlloyGators

What Are They?

The AlloyGator product is a “Super Tough Nylon” flexible strip which is installed between the wheel and tyre (against the edge of the wheel) without causing damage to the alloy wheels during fitting.

They are available in 11 different colours to blend in with the wheel or tyre (black or silver), or to match or contrast the vehicle colour (red, blue, yellow, white, titanium, pink, green, orange & glow in the dark!).

What Do They Do?

The AlloyGators can be used to protect alloy wheels from kerbing, as minor damage can be dressed off the AlloyGator using a special tool which comes with the kit, or if the damage is more severe it can be replaced, which is much quicker and less costly than an alloy wheel repair.

How Long Does It Take?

If the customer lets us know what colour they want and what size the wheels are we can pre clip them and then it would take around 1 Hour to fit them.

If they are not clipped up then it would take around 1 1/2 Hours.

Most of the customers have this done as a while you wait service.

How Much Does Its Cost?

There is a price list in our master pricing folder in reception you should refer to.

The cost of a set of 4 Alloy gators supplied and fitted is £120 inc VAT, and a single replacement is £30 inc VAT.

We do also sell them supply only for customers to fit for £60cinc VAT.

FAQ’s

What size wheels do they fit?

The Alloy Gators will fit wheels from 13”-21” wheels.

Can I wait while you fit them?

Yes you can wait while we fit them it normally takes around 1hour.

What happens if I change the tyres with the gators fitted?

As long as the company set the wheel machine up correctly the gators will not move but if you are unsure after having new tyres please call us or pop in and we will check them for you free of charge.

Parking Sensors & Rear Cameras

What Are They?

chipsaway 800Parking sensors are proximity sensors for vehicles designed to warn the driver of unseen obstacles while parking.

These systems, which use either electromagnetic or ultrasonic sensors, they are usually fitted in rear bumpers, but can also be fitted to the front bumper.

The sensors can be surface mounted or flush fitted depending on the customer’s requirements and they can also be colour coded to match the body work making them look as if they were there from day one.

Colour Coded To Match Bumper

Colour Coded To Match Bumper

We now also offer reversing cameras

What Do They Do?

Rear parking sensors will only work when the car is put into reverse and once the vehicle is in reverse you will hear a beep so you know that they are active, then whilst reverse the sensors will beep once you become close to an object and the closer you get the quicker the beeps will get until you hear one continuous beep which then means you are around 6 inches or 150mm away from the object and should stop.

parking_sensor bike

Also some of our rear parking sensors can integrate a display which will also show you which sensor is picking up the object and how far away you are from it.

Front parking sensors work in the same way but are activated by a power button fitted close to the driver. When the ignition is on they will beep and unless anything is picked up they will switch of automatically then you will need to press the power button to reactivate them or turn the car on and off.

How Long Does It Take?

The vehicle is usually booked in for 1 full day in most instances. This then gives us time to paint and dry the sensors.

IMG_8403Fitting rear sensors normally takes around 2 hours front sensors can take up to half a day.

How Much Does Its Cost?

There is a price list in our master pricing folder in reception you should refer to.

Our rear parking sensors start from £190 inc VAT and go up to £335 inc VAT for the flush fit colour coded front sensors.

Paint Protection Film

What Is It?

It is a film with a high adhesive backing which is available in a clear gloss or matt finish, or in a black textured finish.

Black PPF On Bumper Top

The clear gloss film has an additional top coat to make it a very flat finish (ie very little ‘orange peel’) whilst also being more resistant to chemicals, and also having a ‘self healing’ property where light surface scratches will disappear when gentle heat is applied.

What Does It Do?

The clear or black films can be installed in areas which are prone to damage from scuffs, scratches and chips.

These can range from the top of the rear bumper loading area to stop it being damaged when loading items into the boot (eg prams, shopping, golf equipment, etc), or door sills which get caught by shoes when entering/exiting the vehicle.

IMG_8641At the top end, we can install full/part front end kits which cover the full bumper, full or part wings & full or part bonnet.

We are also able to protect headlights which can also be very expensive to replace.

How Long Does It Take?

This will depend on the area being protected. A single item eg a bumper top takes around 1 hour, whereas a full front end kit can take 1 to 2 days.

How Much Does Its Cost?

There is a price list in our master pricing folder in reception you should refer to, but small items start from around £42 and full front end kits are just under £1000

Vinyl Wrapping

What Is It?

It is a pre-coloured, or patterned or textured film with a high adhesive backing which bonds onto paintwork, but can be professionally removed without causing damage to the original (sound) paintwork.

Vinyl Wrap Colours

There is a huge range of colours and finishes such as matt colours, carbon fibre, brushed aluminium, camo, wood effect, candy & flip colours, and more.

Back Camera

Back Camera

What Does It Do?

It can be installed on a vehicle to dramatically or subtly change the appearance, but be removed to return the vehicle back to it’s original appearance. Some manufacturers have also supplied cars with a vinyl wrap (eg Fords matt black Focus RS500). The most popular requests we have are for gloss/matt black roofs, and black carbon roofs and bonnets, but small exterior and interior parts can also be wrapped such as spoilers, grilles, mirrors, centre console trims, door trims, etc.

AceWrap Slider6

It should be noted that the vinyl wrap film will stretch to cover most gentle curves and contours, but it has a limit to how far it will stretch, and some items have to be wrapped in pieces or may not be able to be wrapped at all depending on their shape.

AceWrap Slider8

We do not carry out complete wraps or graphic wraps, and will only carry out part wraps such as some roofs, bonnets and exterior/interior parts.

AceWrap Slider7

How Long Does It Take?

This depends on the item(s) being wrapped, but most are need from ½ to 1 full day

How Much Does Its Cost?

There is a price list in our master pricing folder in reception you should refer to, but as an example a small roof starts from £147 inc VAT.

Brake Caliper Painting

What Is It?

Most brake calipers & hubs come from the factory unpainted with a natural cast iron finish which is exposed to the elements of the UK weather

This can often lead to them rusting & whilst not likely to affect them structurally, they can look unsightly

We hand paint the calipers, drums and/or hubs with a paint which withstands high temperatures of the braking system from a range of colours

Benefits:

The main benefit is the improvement in looks, enhancing the appearance & making the vehicle look more ‘sporty’ or prestige depending on the colour selected.

A secondary benefit is it offers some additional protection to the painted parts from the elements of the UK weather.

What Do You Do?

The process involves the following

    • The vehicle is jacked up & all wheels are removed
    • Loose surface rust is removed from the calipers/drum/hubs with wire brush tools
    • The parts are cleaned & masked off if required
    • Several coats of 2 part paint are applied by hand using brushes until full coverage is achieved
    • The calipers are dried with infra-red lamps & any masking is removed
    • Wheels are refitted & the vehicle lowered to the ground

How Long Does It Take?

This depends if the wheels have already been removed or not for refurbishment. Including removing & refitting wheels, the process takes around 4 hours

The vehicle should be booked in for a complete day

How Much Does Its Cost?

The current prices are listed in our internal price list which is updated as prices change

The price is in bands, depending on the colour, which determined how many coats of paint are required for full coverage

The price is for a set of 4 discs/drums as well as an additional price if hubs are to be painted

We also offer discounts if purchased as part of a package of products/services

FAQ's

What Options Are Available? - Range of options (if any)

We can paint brake calipers, brake drums as well as disc hubs

If calipers, drums or hubs are not already painted

What Problems/Issues Can It Solve? - Examples of benefits

Painting the calipers/drums/hubs stops them looking unsightly by them rusting further

What Problems/Issues Can It Cause?

Should not cause any problems

When Should It NOT Be Used?

We should not re-paint calipers which have already been painted previously by someone other than the manufacturer
